JAMESTOWN - An alcohol "petition" — of sorts — has been circulating
throughout Jamestown in hopes to obtain enough signatures from
Jamestown's eligible voters to garner a "moist" vote being placed on a
future ballot, according to George Alford, owner of The Meeting Place
restaurant and the upcoming Jamestown Center.

RUSSELL SPRINGS - If enacted it could have been the largest smoking ban in Kentucky. Officials at the Lake Cumberland District Health Department could have
banned smoking in public places within all of the ten counties the
agency oversees. A resolution in support of making that decision was soundly defeated at
the quarterly meeting of that board in Russell Springs Tuesday night.

JAMESTOWN - During last month's meeting of the City Council, Councilman
Larry Joe Murray suggested that the city look into buying two new
police cruisers. This month, however, Murray had a change of heart and Police Chief Mike
Keaton had an alternative choice for the city's new police vehicles —
Kawasaki's "Mule," a large all-terrain vehicle.

Thursday saw city leaders hear and accept the second readings of this
past fiscal year's amended budget ordinance and the budget ordinance
for the 2008-09 fiscal year, among other business.
