‘Hard to interpret’ reading of gauge almost causes emergency drawdown of Lake Cumberland
In July 3-9 issue WOLF CREEK DAM - There was an attempt to notify emergency officials late last week, which the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers now said took too long. That notice was caused -- according to the agency's district engineer -- by a bad instrument reading. Because of that reading the Corps came close to quickly drawing down the water level in Lake Cumberland with an emergency release.

JAMESTOWN - There allegedly had been incidents of harassing and yelling
at neighbors which were reportedly intensifying. Her cousin in a
neighboring county agreed to swear out a mental health warrant for Mary
JoAnn Haynes to be evaluated and if need be treated.

RUSSELL SPRINGS - An operating loss of $91,800 put the last month of
the Russell County Hospital's fiscal year more than $52,000 in the red.
This means the hospital will finish somewhere around $207,000 to the
good for the year according to the papers provided at this week's
hospital board meeting.

JAMESTOWN - Proposed changes for the Russell County school district
next year includes different school hours, different start and end
dates and fewer days of school. At their Monday night meeting, the school board approved a tentative schedule that will be passed along for state approval.
