Imagine yourself at age 92. Are you working? Opal Grider is and that,
coupled with the amount of adversity she’s overcome in the last 30
years, makes her an obvious choice for this week’s “Russell County
Hero.”
ONLINE UPDATE, July 18 WJRS radio is reporting that an expansion involving a $2 million grant is expected to create 150 new jobs at Bruss North America. The German company's North American headquarters is located in the county industrial park off U.S. 127 in Russell Springs. Also, an expansion at Jamestown's Fruit of the Loom factory is expected to add 50 more jobs, and increase the amount of water used by the facility supplied by the city's waterworks.
Venomous snakes of Russell County are not a threat if you recognize and avoid them
In July 19 issue, Russell County News Let’s make one thing clear from the start: there are no poisonous snakes. No poisonous spiders, either. The word is venomous. Like spiders, snakes inject a chemical venom into their victims. Knowing
the proper term may not ease that tang of caution, however, when
there’s a live and somewhat annoyed two-foot copperhead coiled on the
floor about a yard from your feet when you are being told this.
Had a great time at the Jamestown Celebration. Very nice weekend but
we were a little surprised to see what we thought was a reduction in
attendance this year. The celebration is a great idea and we certainly encourage to keep the
tradition alive and well. We could not keep from thinking how many
hours and years the Hoover family had put into the production of the
event. Our thanks to them for all their efforts and to all the others that have worked over the years past and especially this year.
CRUISIN': The Kaiser museum at Jamestown's The Cookery

Last week while I was crusin’ around the County I happened to drive
past “The Cookery” in Jamestown. The old Kaiser setting in front of
the place caught my eye and I said to myself, “ There has to be a
story in that old car.”
