Six charged in drug, alcohol trafficking

RUSSELL SPRINGS - A criminal investigation into drug trafficking and
bootlegging last weekend led to the arrest of six men, according to
Russell County Sheriff's Deputy Tim Pierce. Arrests ranged from the illegal sale of alcoholic beverages in a dry
territory, criminal attempt to traffic in cocaine, trafficking in
marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Man stabbed, beaten in early morning attack

RUSSELL SPRINGS - A man was “jumped,” beaten and stabbed as he walked home from a friend’s house this week. Russell County Deputy Sheriff Nick Bertram said Alexius Lopez was
attacked at about 3:45 a.m. on South Ridge Circle, just off of Voils
Road.

Jamestown Elementary student picked by Weather Channel for first in national video contest

Weather made for an exciting Tuesday for Dorsey Franklin. And an exciting Monday as well. It started when her video submission to the Weather Channel was
featured on their web site. Then came the email Tuesday that she had
won that network’s contest. “I was excited,” Dorsey, 7-year-old student at Jamestown Elementary.

Accounting practice causes state to check local school system

apparently led to a state oversight of the local school system. The reports of distress in Wayne County over that school district’s
financial problems, and the hand that Kentucky Department of Education
has taken in response, prompted some to draw comparisons to the Russell
County system.

Brenda S. Pruitt, 62, of Russell Springs did not obey signals to stop
