Lakers embarrass Rebels, win 56-2

The Russell County Lakers trounced the visiting Rebels of Casey County Friday night, 56-2, in the Lakers' home opener.
The Lakers jumped out to an early lead and never looked back as Coach Bill Sharp was able to play some underclassmen in the game's final minutes.
The Lakers visit the Pulaski County Maroons at 7 p.m. next Friday.

Jamestown woman drowns while swimming in lake

PLEASANT HILL - A Russell County woman drowned Sunday afternoon in Lake
Cumberland while swimming near the Pleasant Hill Boat Ramp, according
to Russell County Coroner Larry Skaggs, making this the county's first
lake drowning this year.

Man dies in boat in boat collision with island

JAMESTOWN - Labor Day weekend was a deadly one on Lake Cumberland as a
Lexington man was killed and his passenger seriously injured after
midnight Sunday when the boat he was traveling in struck an island on
the west end of the main lake at a high speed and flipped, pinning him
underneath, according to Russell County Coroner Larry Skaggs.
