The Russell County Middle School Lakers have been busy
lately, playing games against Lebanon,
Campbellsville and Adair County
within the past week.
Both the 7th and 8th grade Lakers
scored victories over Lebanon
and Campbellsville.
In the seventh grade game against Lebanon,
Russell County
came away with a 30-point victory, 56-26.
Scoring for the Lakers was Tyler Robertson with 18, Jalen
Bennett and Barton Mann with eight, Garrett Stephens with seven, Nick Britt
with seven, Austin Beard with four, Dustin Pierce, Lucas Whittle and Chris
Burchett with two points each.
In the eighth grade game, the Lakers came away with a 64-45
victory. Eleven Lakers scored in the victory, led by Hunter Best with 11
points. Tyler Robertson scored nine points while Jared Gosser and Blake Aaron
both had seven points. Paul Allen Dick had six points while Dustin Powell and
Steven Sanders had five apiece.
Brandon Bunch, Cody Huckaby and C.J. Bray all had four while
Ethan Pike had two points.
Against Campbellsville, the seventh grade Lakers destroyed
the Eagles, 58-11, in a game that was never close.
Dustin Pierce led the Lakers in scoring with 11 points
followed by Nick Britt with nine points. Austin Beard and Tyler Robertson both
had eight while Lucas Whittle and Garrett Stephens had six points each. Chris
Burchett and T.J. Pierce both had four points while Jalen Bennett had three
points in the victory.
In the eighth grade game, the Lakers held on for a 10-point
victory, 58-48. The Lakers had a three-headed scoring monster in Jared Gosser,
Hunter Best and Blake Aaron. All three Lakers had double-digit points in the
game with Gosser and Best each with 16 and Aaron with 14 points in the victory.
Also scoring for Russell
County was Tyler Robertson with
five points, Evan Selby with three points and Cesar Prudente and Ethan Pike
with two points apiece.
The Lakers traveled to Adair
County on Monday night with the
seventh grade defeating the Indians 45-15. The eighth graders didn’t fair as
well, losing 49-41.
Eighth Grade Night for the RCMS basketball team is
Jan. 31 when they play host to Clinton County at 5 p.m.
