In Feb. 7-13 Issue
Michael Carpenter’s Russell County Middle School Lakers have
had mixed results with both the 7th and 8th grade teams
within the past week with the 7th graders going unbeaten while the 8th
graders were winless, as conference play started.
On Jan. 28, the Lakers traveled to Adair
County for a matchup against the
Indians. In the 7th grade contest, the Lakers whipped the Indians by
30 points, with nine Lakers getting into the scoring column.
Austin Beard led the 7th graders with 11 points
followed by Nick Britt’s eight. Both Dustin Pierce and Lucas Whittle managed to
score six points apiece. Barton Mann and Jalen Bennett both scored four points
while Garrett Stephens had three.
Nick Coe had two points while Chris Burchett tallied one
In the 8th grade game, the Indians narrowly beat
the Lakers by eight points, 49-41. The Lakers had three players in double
figures with Hunter Best scoring 14 points and Blake Aaron and Jared Gosser
scoring 10 apiece. Paul Allen Dick had five in the game while Dustin Powell scored
On Jan. 31, the RCMS Lakers played host to the Clinton
County Bulldogs on 8th Grade Night. The 7th Lakers
continued their dominance, winning by 20 over the Bulldogs, 43-23.
The Lakers were led in scoring by Tyler Robertson with 12
points and Nick Britt with 10.
Lucas Whittle had eight points while Jalen Bennett had five.
Garrett Stephens, Barton Mann and Chris Burchett had two points each while T.J.
Pierce and Dustin Pierce had one point each.
In the 8th grade game, the Lakers nearly came away
victorious, but a late Bulldog surge allowed them to take the victory.
Hunter Best led the way with 14 points while Evan Selby
scored seven. Paul Allen Dick had six points in the game while Jared Gosser had
five. Blake Aaron tallied three points while C.J. Bray, Tyler Robertson and
Dustin Powell all scored two points each.
On Feb. 2, the RCMS Lakers played host to Hart County. In
the 7th grade game, the Lakers beat Hart County by 24 points, 50-26.
Tyler Robertson led the way with 18 points followed by Barton
Mann and Jalen Bennett with eight each. Garrett Stephens had seven points while
Nick Britt scored five. Austin Beard had four points while Dustin Pierce, Lucas
Whittle and Chris Burchett all had two each.
The 8th grade Lakers weren’t able to close on
Hart County in the game’s final minutes and lost by nine, 53-44. Hunter Best
led the Lakers with 17 while Selby had nine. Gosser scored eight points while
Tyler Robertson had seven points. Ethan Pike and Blake Aaron both had one point
On Monday, in the CKMSAC conference tournament, the RCMS
teams traveled to play Hart County again with the 7th graders
winning, 29-23. The 8th grade team lost to Hart County 49-38.
On Tuesday the 7th graders handedly defeated
Larue County to move on in the tournament.
