In Feb. 7-13 Issue
This past weekend the Laker Swim Team traveled to Versailles to compete in the Kentucky High School Athletic Association 2008 Region 3 Swimming and Diving Championships.
The Combined Teams finished in 7th place. The Lady Lakers placed 10th and the Lakers placed 7th. The team had 43 percent Personal Best Times with six swimmers with 100 percent Personal Bests.
In the sport of swimming, competing against your time and improving is an accomplishment.

Alex Miller qualified for the State Championship...
Due to his first place finishes in both the 50 free and 100 free. Miller made the All-Region Team and was also recognized as the Male Region 3 Swimmer of the Year.
He scored the highest NISCA points during the finals. He walked out of the meet with two trophies
Coach Ginny Lengel said, “Jeff and I are not only proud of Alex and his accomplishments, but also of our entire team. We had a lot of fast swims and watched many nail-biting relays. Thank you parents for supporting our swimmers and our sport. We have a truly wonderful group of people here in Russell County and we feel blessed to be a part of the community.”
The Times Journal wishes Alex well this Friday and Saturday as he represents Russell County at the State Championships in Louisville.
He will be competing against 25 other swimmers in the 50 Freestyle and 100 Freestyle events.
Alex is seeded to place 9th in the 50 free and 6th in the 100 free.
