Coach Willie Feldhaus and his 8-12 Mighty Lakers hosted 18-4
Metcalfe County,
a district foe, last Friday at Laker Gym and came up short handed as the Lakers
were beaten, 80-69.
The Lakers fell behind by a large margin early on and were
never able to fully recover from a 31-12 first quarter Hornet run.
Russell County
and Metcalfe both scored 18 second quarter points and 17 third quarter points,
respectively.
The Lakers made a run at the Hornets in the final quarter,
outscoring Metcalfe 22-14 but it was not enough to pull through with the
victory.
Seven Lakers scored in the loss, led by Robbie Bell’s 21
points and Senior Timmy Coffey’s 19. Bryon Ellis also scored double figures
with 10 points. Lucas Justice scored eight for the Lakers while Bryson McFall
scored five points. Adam Justice had four points for the Lakers while Kyle
Burchett had two points in the loss.
Metcalfe County
had six players score with three, White, Wolf and Shively
scoring 20-plus for the Hornets.
The Hornets have been a dominant team all season and the big
run they showcased in the game’s first quarter allowed them to get the victory
after staving off a Laker comeback attempt.
