Bodies discovered by state troopers during manhunt
ONLINE UPDATE – 5:50 a.m. March 7
Kentucky State Police report finding the bodies of a husband and wife after a manhunt that began Thursday afternoon after troopers and a suspect engaged in a gun battle that left one Kentucky State Trooper hospitalized with a gunshot wound in his leg. They say it appears to have been a murder-suicide.
The bodies were found by officers of the Kentucky State Police Special Response Team just before midnight, in the vicinity of Wells Bottom Road in Clinton County, near the Russell - Clinton county line not far from Wolf Creek Dam.
This was near where troopers engaged in a gun battle with the male suspect, who wounded one trooper in the leg after exchanging about a hundred rounds.
The bodies of Teresa A. Sawyers, 43, of Albany, and her ex-husband Terry Sawyers, age 49, were identified about a half hour later.
An investigation continues at this time. Dozens of Kentucky State Police troopers along with the KSP Special Response Team and members of local sheriff's offices were involved in a hunt for Terry Sawyers after the shooting was reported.
