Wed., Apr. 16 is set as 'Free Dump Day'
In Apr. 10-16 issue The free trash disposal day will be here before you know it, warned Solid Waste Coordinator H.M. Bottom. He said that all day on April 16th the county, in conjunction with PRIDE, will be taking trash at the transfer station at no charge. Last year over 550 people participated and Bottom said he is expecting more, not less participation this year. County residents can bring whatever trash they have pulled out of their yards or packed up in spring cleaning, with the exception of batteries and tires, he explained. This is also not the time for disposing of agricultural waste such as pesticide or herbicide bottles. Bottom said that day would be held in the late spring. “We’ll be busy all day,” Bottom said. He said that once someone backs up to be unloaded it will only take five to ten minutes to have a pickup or small trailer unloaded, but couldn’t say how long someone would wait in line to dump. He said they have taken steps to make sure as many people as possible are being unloaded at a time, but waits will vary though the day. The gates will open at 8 a.m. and close at 6 p.m. Bottom added. For more information about the dump-day, as it is commonly referred to, call the county at 343-2112 or Bottom at 585-1416.
