In April 10-16 IssueThe Russell County Lakers hosted Kennedy Catholic High School from Minnesota last Wednesday, sweeping a doubleheader.
The Lakers won by scores of 4-2 and 1-0.
Laker pitchers David Wooldridge and Quinton Warriner won the games for the Lakers.
Senior Kyle Roy threw for 15 strikeouts in the nightcap before getting a no-decision.
In the Laker’s first game, Cody Stephens went 1-3 and helped the Lakers to the two-run victory.
In the final game of the doubleheader, Russell County managed to get the victory as Dillon Downey went 1-1 with one RBI, enough to do in the traveling team from up north.
Bryson McFall, Drew Richards and Brett Huddleston all had hits to go along with Downey’s to get the Lakers a win.
Russell County also defeated the Wayne County Cardinals last week in both varsity and junior varsity games.
The Lakers bested the Cardinals varsity by 4-0. Adam Black got the victory for the Lakers, garnering six strikeouts.
Senior catcher Josh Popplewell went 1-2 from the plate with one homerun and three RBI.
David Wooldridge, Drew Richards and Quinton Warriner all got hits in the game.
Downey also got the pitching victory in the junior varsity game as the Lakers won 4-1. He had five strikeouts.
Zach Carney had a triple and two RBI for the Laker JV.
