In April 17-23 Issue
The Russell County track team was on the road during spring break. The first meet was held on Tuesday at Taylor County and on Thursday the team traveled to Green County.
At Taylor County All Comers the girl's team was led by Michelle Copley, which won every individual event she was in and placed second in the 4X400 relay.
Also leading the scoring for the girls was Ashley Wilson as she contributed 20 points by winning the shot put and discus throws.
Other girls scoring placed as followed: 100 meter dash: Casey Keaton 6th, Heather Flatt 7th & Tara Sayer 8th; 200 meter dash: Casey Keaton 4th, Tara Sayer 7th; 400 meter dash: Casey Keaton 3rd, Heather Flatt 4th, McKenzie Back 8th; 800 meter run: Suzanne Grider 2nd; 100 meter hurdles: Michelle Copley 1st, Selena Padilla 5th, Shelby Holder 6th, Amanda Smith 7th (fell on hurdle); 300 meter hurdles: Michelle Copley 1st, Lindsay Ramage 3rd, Selena Padilla 4th, Shelby Holder 5th; 4X400 meter relay 2nd; High Jump: Michelle Copley 1st; Long Jump: Lindsay Ramage 3rd, Amanda Smith 5th, Selena Padilla 6th, Erica Mann 7th; Shot Put: Ashley Wilson 1st; Discus: Ashley Wilson 1st.
The boys finished in the following events: 400 meter dash: Aaron Pierce 3rd; 800 meter run: Trevor Robertson 3rd, Aaron Pierce 5th, Allen Kemp 6th; 1600meter run: Trevor Robertson 2nd; 110 high hurdles: Austen LaFavers 2nd; 300 meter hurdles: Austen LaFavers 2nd; Long Jump: Allen Kemp 4th, Robert Bradshaw 5th; Shot Put: Logan Clark 5th, Daniel Black 6th, Chad Parker 8th, Zak Schultz 10th; Discus: Bryon Ellis 1st, Daniel Black 5th, Logan Clark 6th.
At Green County All-Comers the girls finished in the following events: 100m. Dash: Casey Keaton 7th, Tara Sayer 9th, Sarah Bonner 10th; 200m. Dash: Keaton 5th, Lindsay Ramage 8th, Sayer 10th; 400m. Dash: Michelle Copley 1st, Erica Mann 12th; 100m. Hurdles: Copley 1st, Ramage 3rd, Shelby Holder 4th; 300m. Hurdles: Copley 1st, Ramage 3rd, Holder 4th; 4X100m. Relay 5th; 4X200m. Relay 6th; High Jump: Copley 1st; Long Jump: Ramage 4th, Erica Mann 8th; Shot Put: Ashley Wilson 1st; Discus: Ashley Wilson 1st.
The boys finished in the following events as follows: 400m. Dash: Aaron Pierce 2nd, Allen Kemp 7th; 800m. Run: Trevor Robertson 6th, Aaron Pierce 8th, Allen Kemp 9th; 1600m. Run: Trevor Robertson 2nd; 3200m. Run: Robertson 2nd; Long Jump: Kemp 9th, Robert Bradshaw 10th; Shot Put: Chad Parker 14th.
The athletes that participated over spring break are improving drastically in their times in each event they are entered in. Michelle Copley is now running the 400m.Dash and 300m. Hurdles back to back, which is extremely hard to do and it shows the caliber of her athleticism.
Ashley Wilson continues to improve her throws as she has yet to be beat in each of the throwing events.
Trevor Robertson is lowering his mile and 2 mile times and is running very well against veteran varsity runners.
Each athlete is doing a great job and gaining experience at each meet, according to Coach Misty Matney.
The next scheduled meet is April 25th for the AA Derby at Boyle County.
