On Sat, April 19^th, 2008, Wolf Creek National Fish Hatchery (NFH) partnered with Friends of Wolf Creek NFH, Inc and the Russell County Soil Conservation District to sponsor and celebrate the arrival of spring and the great outdoors by hosting an Earth Day Celebration! 

The event also coincided with National Environmental Education Week, which ran from April 13^th through April 19^th. 

With the Visitor/Environmental Education Center open from 8am CST – 4pm CST, the day centered on a variety of organizations and agencies that set up booths promoting different ways to get connected to the natural world.  Each booth was encouraged to not only give out information but to also think of ways to get people into action when it comes to making connections with nature. 

Agencies in attendance included the following:  Russell County Soil Conservation District, Kentucky Division of Forestry, Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources, Trout Unlimited and the Russell County Middle School PRIDE Club. 

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service staff at Wolf Creek NFH also had a booth along with the Friends of Wolf Creek NFH.  With such a variety of agencies and organizations on hand, numerous offerings were available for those in attendance, including free tree seedlings (redbud and wild plum tree seedlings), birdhouses, energy efficient light bulbs, fly tying demonstrations along with guided nature hikes. 

The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources also brought fishing poles to allow kids wanting to learn how to fish a chance to do just that at hatchery creek. 

All total, over 500 people were in attendance for the event, and during the day, the hatchery grounds abounded with family and friends walking, looking and discovering their own new connections to the natural world around them!
