On Saturday, May 3, at Lindsey Wilson College, twenty Russell County 4-H youth competed in the Lake Cumberland 4-H Showcase of Stars.
4-Her members from Russell County and other surrounding counties competed in speech, demonstration, and variety show. The champions in speech and demonstrations will advance to the state competition that will be held on July 12 in Lexington, KY. The champions in the variety show will perform at the Kentucky State Fair in August.
There were 3 grand champions in the demonstrations division: Macey Johnson in Foods, Whitney Oaks in Breads, and Bailey Henson in Animal Science. These youth are 5th graders at Jamestown Elementary School.
There were also 4 reserve champions in demonstrations: Josh Melson (Russell Springs Elementary 4th grade) in Home Environment, Shelby Maldonado (Salem Elementary 6th grade) in Crafts, and Madison Allen and Kelsey West (JES 6th) in Team demonstration.
Elisha Loy (JES 4th grade) received a blue ribbon in General demonstrations. Morgan Emerson (RSES 5th grade) received a blue ribbon in 11 year old speech. Caitlyn Kerr (RCMS 8th grade) received a blue ribbon in 13 year old speech. Also Eli Jackson (RSES 4th grade) received a red ribbon in 10 year old speech.
The Jamestown Elementary 5th grade club act received grand champion honors in the variety show. The members of the champion club act are Cayce Fowler, Kelsey Tarter, Maggie Flanagan, Raven Helm, and Lindsay Daniel.
Four other 4-H members received green ribbons in the specialty act variety show. They were Mackinzie Rincon (Salem Elementary 6th grade) and Kendra Foster, Amber Crabtree, and Michaela Stevenson (RSES 5th grade).
