Congratulations go out to The “OUTSIDERS” Car Club of Russell County this past weekend on their trip to The Ohio Valley Cruisers Car Show in Henderson Kentucky.
Nine cars headed out Saturday morning May 17th for the 216 mile trip to Henderson Kentucky for the 22nd Annual Car Show there. Out of the nine cars from the “OUTSIDERS” Car Club, the group hauled in an impressive 14 awards for the club.
At the Cruise in on Saturday Night John and MaryAnn McDaniel took top awards for the best Ford Vehicle. Dwayne and Mike Esau took awards for the top GM car.
The actual Car show took place the following day on Sunday . The members to get awards for top cars in the show of over 175 cars were, Tom and Susan Bernardi for their 1964 Mercury Convertible, Ted and Julie Beckman for their 1985 Corvette, Neil & Maralee Patton for their 2000 Corvette, Ronnie and Judy Wilson for their 1982 Chevy Scottsdale Pickup Truck, Ron & Fill Cowell for their 1960 Chevy, David Roy for his 1988 Jaguar, Mike and Phyllis Taylor for their 1957 Chevy.
The Sunday show was just a repeat of Saturday night when John & MaryAnn McDaniel took Best Ford. Mike and Dwayne Esau once again took the award for the Best GM car.
Mike and Phyllis Taylor got the Hard Luck trophy. On the way to the show about 30 miles out of Henderson Mike started feeling a vibration in his car. The closer he got the worse it got. He was able to make it to Henderson OK.
I have always talked about how wonderful most of the people are who belong to these car clubs. The friendliness of members of other clubs and the willingness to help is just outstanding.
After finding out about Mike’s problem with his car a former member of the Ohio Valley Cruisers, Fran Lutz met with Mike and spent four and a half hours working on Mike’s car trying to get him going. The car was repaired enough to get Mike to the very end of the Cruise In and got him through the show the following day. The Outsiders would like to thank Fran Lutz for taking the time to help someone he had just met and ask for nothing in return.
I myself have learned a lot since becoming a member of the “OUTSIDERS”. While working with them and the other clubs I have really seen what teamwork is. The club traveled in a caravan to the show. When Mike’s car started to have problems all nine cars from the club pulled off the road to lending a helping hand. No one is left stranded or behind.
It turned out to be a great trip for the club. Although very tired the group pulled into Russell County close to 11:00 PM Sunday night but all were happy and had a good time together.
Pictured is the Club and the trophies and awards they got at the Show. If anyone would like to go to the Henderson show next year mark it on your calendar. It is always the weekend after Mothers day. It won’t matter if you enter a car or just go for a trip to get away you’ll have a good time looking at the Classic Cars and listening to the oldies music and enjoying good company and a lot of fun.
Also last weekend here in Russell County the Old Boys Toys had their car show in the K Mart Parking lot. A good crowd attended the show with over 70 entries.
Here are the results of that show. Best Ford went to Lee Pierce for his 1957 Ford, Best GM went to Paul Robertson for his 1960 Chevy, Best Mopar went to Jeff Thomas for his 1974 Cuda. Best pickup went to Timmy Hudson for his 1951 Ford Pickup. The People’s Choice award went to Emery Digman for his 1966 Corvette. The best motorcycle went to Steve Burton for his 2005 Harley Davidson and the best tractor went to Gary Sullivan for his 1955 Farm All. Congratulations to these people also.
There are Car Shows, Cruise Ins all summer long in the area. We will try to keep you informed as the area clubs let us know when they will be taking place.
If your Club is having an event and you would like us to tell everyone about it send me an email to djron47@yahoo.com . All information needs to be sent in at least two weeks before the event.
