Lady Lakers take district, lose in rain-delayed region opener

The Russell County Lady Lakers won the 16th District Softball Championship last Thursday night, defeating Clinton County, 10-8, at Metcalfe County High School.
The Lady Lakers rallied from a deficit late in the game to secure the title.
Megan Huckaby, Abbie Tarter, Lacy Holt, Hailey McBeath and Sarah McClure were all named to the All-District following the game.
Russell County then moved on to the 4th Region Tournament at Western Kentucky University this week.
In the opening round of play on Monday, the Lady Lakers and Logan County were rained out as heavy rainfall enveloped Bowling Green.
After finally taking the field on Tuesday, the Lady Lakers were defeated by Logan County, 13-3, ending Russell County’s season.
The Lady Lakers’ record was nine wins and 23 losses. Near the end of the season, the Lady Lakers seemed to play with more heart and desire.
The hard work in the district championship game gave these ladies a district championship to remember, one won with hard work and gritty effort.
The 16th District Champs are coached by Trent Tarter, Shanna Tarter, Jerry Guffey and Angie Hadley.
