New Judicial Center building will have gabled roof
In June 12-18 issue By Greg Wells Times Journal Managing Editor
JAMESTOWN - "We got the gabled roof," said Circuit Clerk Tony Kerr referring to the plans for the Russell County Judicial Center.
It was a change that Judge Vernon Miniard had pressed hard for.
"I'll bet Wayne County wishes they'd done it," Kerr added. "The flat roof in their brand new building leaked from day one."
The changes were approved, including what Kerr termed some "tweaking" of the floor plan to improve traffic flow and staff workflow.
The approval came at the Monday lunch meeting of the Russell County Property Development Board.
On June 23, the plans will have to be presented to a committee in Frankfort to approve the overall approach, judging it against the direction given them when the county was funded for the project.
After that approval the work will proceed. It is expected that demolition of the buildings presently on the planned site at the Northwest corner of the square in Jamestown could begin this fall.
"I think we're on target to finish by our completion date in the fall of 2010,"said Kerr, who is a member of the board, and whose office will be located in the new building.
