Better road, new building for more jobs
In June 19-25 issue

ABOVE: Workers began building a new connection for French Valley Road at U.S. 127 last week.

RUSSELL SPRINGS - Construction is progressing on the realignment of French Valley Road. So is construction on the Russell County Industrial Authority’s new “spec” building.

Gene Royalty told the members of the fiscal court that based on what he has been told by transportation cabinet officials, he expects the road work to be finished around November of this year and they hope to have the building in the French Valley Industrial Park finished by the first of the year.

Royalty said the building is necessary to attract new industry to the area, since so many counties throughout the state already have such buildings up and ready for any business that is looking for a new home.

The authority had good news in May when they opened the bids for the new building and they came in almost $80,000 under what was budgeted for, Royalty said.

The funding for the building comes from a number of community and industrial development funds in the area and the state, he told the court Monday night.

The authority itself is putting about $54,000 into the project, which is budgeted to cost $1.9 million.

In all, he said they have put about $900,000 into developing that industrial park.

He said the agency’s other industrial park has one building site unoccupied in it and this park greatly expands the county’s ability to draw in business and jobs.

The spec-building project has been on the back burner for a while.

“We’ve just been waiting on that road,” Royalty said.

The new building will be 40,500 square feet including office space and loading dock space for three tractor trailers.

The construction on the road has closed the U.S. 127 entrance but the Ky. 379 entrance remains open. The pre-stressed concrete spans for the largest bridge on the road are in place and construction is being done in sections.

Construction work is also progressing on a lot adjacent to that 127 entrance for a new United Citizens Bank branch as well as some additional retail space.
