WOLF CREEK NATIONAL FISH HATCHERY - Upcoming Event Schedule for July at Wolf Creek National Fish Hatchery
Summer is here, and with the children out of school and vacations on the mind, why not stay close to home and enjoy some of the great event opportunities that Wolf Creek National Fish Hatchery has to offer in July?
For those who enjoy arts and crafts, the hatchery will serve as host for a Basket Making Workshop on Saturday, July 12th. Join instructors Jonny Davis and Mary Shear as they lead you through the skills of making a peg basket. Perfect for hanging on the wall and storing mail, letters, etc, this basket is easy to make, even for beginners. The event will begin at 9:00 am CT, and the cost for the class is $10.00. Participants will need to bring the following basket making supplies: container for water, 2 old towels, snap type clothing pins and an awl. All other materials are provided.
On Tuesday, July 15th, a special program - “Venomous Snakes of Kentucky!” – will be held. Jeff Hohman and Joe Settles, biologists with East Kentucky Power Cooperative (EKPC), will be on hand to lead an exploration into the world of venomous snakes in Kentucky. Participants will learn more about how to ID venomous snakes, the role they play in the natural world around us and more! Each person in attendance will also receive a free “Snakes of Kentucky” poster compliments of South Kentucky Rural Electric Cooperative. The program is free and open to the public and will start at 7:00 pm CT.
For those who enjoy fly fishing or have ever wanted to learn, then Saturday, July 19th is the program for you! Join members from the Louisville, KY chapter of Trout Unlimited for a great morning of introductory fly tying! You’ll enjoy a fun-filled morning of learning all the basics of fly tying from some great instructors. This class is designed for the novice or beginner. The event will start at 9:00 am and will conclude at noon. There is no fee for the class; however, pre-registration is REQUIRED to attend this event. You may pre-register by contacting the hatchery.
