Jordan Redmon, 16, of Russell Springs, reportedly went under the water in the Big South Fork of the Cumberland River Monday afternoon while swimming.
Divers recovered the teen's body in seven feet of water about two hours later.
He was said to have been swimming in the area of Leatherwood Ford, in Scott County Tennessee.
The youth's step-grandfather Leon McGaha said Jordan had gone to the area Sunday on a camping trip with relatives.
According to Jeanine McLavee of the National Park Service, witnesses last glimpsed Redmon about 4:15 Monday afternoon in the river at the ford in the national park.
He was reportedly swimming in an area of the river set off by some large boulders.
McGaha said funeral arrangements have not been completed but a family member reports that visitation was set for Wednesday after 5 p.m. at Bernard Funeral Home in Russell Springs.
The funeral was reportedly set for 1 p.m. Thursday.
Leatherwood Ford is a popular access point to the river. It is located about 15 miles west of Oneida, Tn., and about that far south of the Ky.-Tn. state line.
The location is near the main headquarters of the Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area, a huge area run by the National Park service.
