The Russell Springs Rays Swim Team completed their third regular season swim meet on Tuesday against the Berea Dolphins.
The Russell Rays call the Russell Springs City Pool their home where they practice twice a day, Monday through Thursday.
The Rays are coached by Debbie Loy. Her assistant coaches are Lauren Wade and Lindsey Pfoff.
The Rays were established in 2002 with 35 members and four coaches.
This season, the Rays have around 150 swimmers on the roster, according to Wade.
In addition to the coaches, the Rays have numerous vounteers helping with practices, book keeping, computer entries, record keeping, t-shirts, recreation activities, fund raising, working the meets as timers, starting the heats, recording the finishes, ribbons, setting up and cleaning up.
“We are kept busy with the little ones,” Pfoff said. “But, we’ve witnessed it grow to the point it is now and we’re excited.
These athletes are gaining strength that will enable them to perform better in other sports and activities this fall as well as gaining confidence, self disclipine, pride in their achievements, working as a team having fun, according to coaches.
The Lake Cumberland Swim Association Conference meet is scheduled for July 25-26 at the Russell Springs City Pool.
This is a two day event and there will be five teams, Berea, Knox County, Laurel County, Somerset-Pulaski and the Russell Rays here trying to come out victorious.
