In July 17-23 IssueThe Russell County 15-year-old Babe Ruth all-stars swept through their district tournament last week at Laker Field, winning three straight games.
The team, coached by Barry Coffey, Darrell Selby and David Cross, managed to defeat McCreary County, Adair County and Campbellsville in route to the Babe Ruth Leagues of Kentucky District 5 title.
Russell County defeated Campbellsville, 10-0, last Wednesday to claim the trophy. A team photo is seen on this page.
Earlier in the week, the Russell County 14-year-old Babe Ruth all-stars won their best of three series with Somerset-Pulaski to take their district title as well.
The 14-year-olds are coached by Richard Bennett, David Aaron and Josh Popplewell.
The 15’s open state play in Georgetown on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. against Shelbyville.
The 14’s open state play on Thursday as well at Lexington’s Veteran’s Park against Frankfort at 6:30 p.m., according to reports.
