A very young child discovered along the ditch line on Ky. 55 was cause for alarm Friday.

Deputy Sheriff Clete McAninch sped to the scene on July 25th and found good news rather than bad.

“Thank God it was a social worker that found him, not some pedophile,” McAninch said.

He explained that a social worker noticed the child in diapers about 10 a.m. and called for assistance.

The deputy said that when he arrived a parent and grandparent of the child was already there.

From what he could gather, McAninch said that while his father was fishing overnight, the 2-year-old child had been staying with his grandfather. That morning the grandfather had gone out to get some milk, while everyone was asleep.

But the child's dad had phoned to say he was home while the grandfather was out for milk and the unanswered phone woke the child, who decided to walk the short distance home.

McAninch said child protective services were called to the scene to address the situation and would be handling the case from there.
