Lakers get close scrimmage win, eye Danville on Saturday

In August 28-Sept. 3 Issue

The Lakers got a 13-12 win over Barren County in their final scrimmage before the season starts this Saturday.

After a big defensive stop on the goal line, the Lakers scored on their first possession and led 6-0 at the half.

Russell County scored on its last possession and hit the extra point for the 13-12 victory.

The win should give the Lakers a confidence boost as they head to Danville on Saturday to play the Admirals in the Bob Allen Pigskin Classic.

Danville, arguably the top team in 2A, is a tough assignment for Coach Bill Sharp’s team but he said the game should help build success for his team throughout the season.

Kick-off is at 8 p.m. Saturday evening in Danville.

Mercer County plays Madison Central in the classic’s first game.
