In August 28-Sept. 3 IssueThis past weekend the Russell County Lady Laker Golf team was the host of the Kentucky Invitational Golf Tournament with over 20 teams and 110 participants competing.
The Lady Lakers came out victorious earning the team championship for the day after defeating the 2007 state champions, the West Jessamine Lady Colts by 3 strokes.
The Lady Lakers shot a 324 for the day which was their best team score of the season, thus far.
Top state contender and Lady Laker April Emerson captured second place honors after shooting a 73 for the day.
Lydia Gumm of North Hardin shot a 70 and took home first place individual honors for the third year in a row.
Scoring for the Lady Lakers:
April Emerson—73, Danielle Murray—82, Jalena Barnes—82, Lauren Haynes—87 and Brianne Coe—104.
The Lady Lakers also had a second team in the tournament. Scoring: Peyton Walters, 100, Madison Loy, 107, LeAnn Grider: 110, Caitlyn Kerr, 115 and Lindsay Haynes, 130
The Lady Lakers and their parents would like to thank all the sponsors for the days event including the title sponsors First National Bank, Bank of Jamestown, Gaddie Shamrock, and the VFW post of Russell County. And a special thanks to Lakewood Country Club.
The team was in action at Lakewood Country Club last Thursday night against Somerset and Pulaski County.
The Lady Lakers came out victorious shooting a team score of 159 to Somerset's 176 and Pulaski's 179.

The Lady Laker Junior Varsity golf team finished second in a match last week at Dix River competing against Garrard County and Rockcastle County.
Scoring for the Lady Laker JV golfers was as follows: Caitlyn Kerr-53, Madison Loy-56, Ryan Hoover-61, Baylee Hadley-64, Lindsay Haynes-64, Kenna Richardson-65, Nancy George-71 and Lesley Roy-73.
