Lakers battle hard but fall, 44-31, to Danville

ONLINE UPDATE-August 30

The Russell County Lakers gave a valiant effort Saturday night but fell, 44-31, to the Danville Admirals in the Bob Allen Pigskin Classic.

Coach Bill Sharp's team looked like a team to be reckoned with this season and will build on Saturday's success against a top 25 team in the state, according to many state media polls.

The Lakers scored on their first offensive play from scrimmage as Bryon Ellis found Landon Meece for a long touchdown reception, the Lakers' highlight of the night.

Russell County's Shelby Bell was crowned the Bob Allen Pigskin Queen before the game. All in all, a good night for Laker fans, despite the loss, as it shows Russell County is not to be taken lightly this fall.
