Some changes happened last week in the Russell County school system as
former Russell County Middle School Principal Kenny Pickett was named
the interim assistant school superintendent while Scottie Weston, a
teacher at the high school, was named interim principal at the middle
The personnel moves were announced late last week by Superintendent Scott Pierce.
Pickett, a former teacher and the longtime head baseball coach at the
high school, had been principal at the middle school for several years.
The assistant superintendent’s position went unfilled for a number of years until Pierce's announcement last week.
Pierce said additional oversight was needed in the school system, which
has recently been low on funding and active in construction, as it
Due to Kentucky state laws, both positions will be posted on the
Kentucky Educator Placement Service Web site and eligible applicants
will have 30 days to apply before a final decision is made.
The job posting says the assistant superintendent applicants must have
knowledge of the following: food services, maintenance, technology,
transportation and grant writing.
The middle school's Site Based Decision Making Council will recommend a
permanent principal at the end of 30 days based on the applicants,
according to Pierce.
Pickett and Weston began their new jobs this week.
