Lady Laker Golf Coach
The Lady Laker golf team will be heading to the KHSAA Girls High School State Golf Tournament next week at Bowling Green Country Club after becoming 9th Region Champions on Monday evening.
State tournament action will begin on Tuesday, October 7.
After being regional runner-ups the last three years being defeated by Coach Peace’s Whitley County Lady Colonels and Coach Howard’s Somerset Lady Jumpers, the Lady Lakers shot a team score of 336, which was their second best team score of the season. The Lady Lakers were led by senior April Emerson.
After shooting a 72 for the day, Lady Laker Senior April Emerson captured top honors surpassing the closest competition by 6 strokes.
Emerson has been individual region runner-up for the past 4 years, since she was in 8th grade.
Emerson was at her best on Monday finishing with three birdies and several pars.
Emerson is one of the state’s top contenders. She will go into the state tournament next week favored to finish in the top 10 in tournament action.
April has had an outstanding season so far finishing with numerous top 5 finishes in invitational tournaments as well as an invitational championship at Sacred Heart’s Bunny Daugherty tournament.
Freshman Jalena Barnes shot an 85 and finished 5th place in the region.
Sophomore Danielle Murray shot an 87 and finished tied for 7th. Sophomore Lauren Haynes shot a 92 which put her in 13th place.
Seventh grader Brianne Coe shot a 97 and finished 17th overall in the region.
Overall, each of the Lady Lakers faired well out of the 80+ region 9 competitors with all finishing in the top 20.
Good Luck to the Lady Lakers as they travel to Bowling Green next week to compete in the 2008 state tournament.
