LIBERTY - A Casey County man was stabbed in an altercation early Friday morning, Nov. 14, and a Russell County man is being blamed. Casey County Deputy Sheriff Chad Weddle said Matthew Martin allegedly was stabbed by Steven Williams during an altercation at 477 Moxley Road a few miles outside Liberty. 

Weddle said Martin walked half a mile to another Moxley Road residence to report the stabbing to 911. Martin was picked up by the emergency medical service and later airlifted to the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center in Lexington.

Weddle, who responded to the call at 2:31 a.m., said three people were arrested. Williams, 29, of Russell Springs was charged with first-degree assault and alcohol intoxication in a public place.

Weddle said he was unsure of what exactly led to the stabbing. When the deputy arrived, he found Williams hiding behind the residence. Two others who live at the residence also were charged.

Amber D. Hoover, 25, is accused of endangering the welfare of a minor and driving under the influence of alcohol. Jake McEndree, 28, is charged with alcohol intoxication and endangering the welfare of a minor. While driving up to the residence, Weddle said he witnessed Hoover attempting to leave the residence in a motor vehicle while intoxicated.

Hoover's 8-month-old child was left inside the residence with McEndree, whom Weddle said was passed out in a chair next to the baby. Weddle noted the child was taken into custody and has since been given to Hoover's mother. Social services has been notified.

All three charged in the incident are currently lodged in the Casey County Detention Center. Bond has not been set.
