Lady Laker golf sensation April Emerson signed her national letter of intent to play golf at Eastern Kentucky University this week.
Emerson, a first team All State talent, said that by signing her EKU papers she was meeting her goal of playing for a NCAA Division 1 School.
“It was hard trying to make a decision because it was a big decision and you want to make the right one,” Emerson said. “I was really nervous about making my decision but I am happy with it.”
Emerson said Eastern Kentucky’s team was a close-knit group and that she felt at home there.
“The team has good morals and the coach is a real Christian lady, she’s real strict but I like that,” she said.
Emerson said she would take the many wonderful memories and experiences from her Lady Laker career with her to Eastern Kentucky.
“I will miss all the girls,” she said. “It has just been nice to have been apart of championship teams, they’ve helped me to become the golfer I am today.”
“I’m proud of April’s decision that she made,” said Lady Laker Golf Coach Robin Rixon. “I think she’ll fit right in with Eastern’s program.”
“It is a very structured program and that’s what April likes is organized programs with scheduled practices,” Rixon said. “I think she’ll be a big asset to Eastern’s team for the next four years.
We’ll miss her at Russell County but we wish her luck in the NCAA college level.”
