Coach Pippen hints at success
In Dec. 4 Issue

Coach Pippen: The varsity girls are excited about taking another step forward and they are much more competitive and have a better understanding of what is expected of them from a year ago.

We are now competitive in each position.  Every spot on the floor is a battle for a position. That’s a great sign going into the season.

They all want to play this year so they are showing more competitive spirit in practice compared to when we started last year.

The biggest difference I think people will see this year is the ability

of our guards to handle the ball and make better decisions. We have really focused on guard improvement and will continue to do so throughout the season.

When you average 20 plus turnovers per game (last

year stat), you are not going to win many games.  How we won 12 games last year averaging that many turnovers is surprising to me.  I credit last years’ defense for that.

Another thing that stands out early is our younger players ability to push the “upper class” girls.

There is much more skill in our lower class than a year ago and that should help with practice intensity and bench management.

Overall, I am pleased and eager to see how this team will shape up.

Summer went extremely well.  Played a lot of games  at varsity level. Was able to play many different line-ups and saw a lot of improvement among certain players. Our coaching staff (Craig Pippen, Kelly Kelsey, Teran Duncan and Lindsay Morrison) are looking forward to this coming year.

We have to develop scoring threats and do a much better job taking care of the ball. This year we will be much better at the guard spot and I believe our post game will be much more developed.

Players that should play a major role in our success include Rachael

Miller, Kim Pierce and Kyla Thomas.  Younger players that

will be looked to include Sara McClure, Blair Hoover, LeeAnn Grider, Lindsay Ramage, Heather Burton and Tyla Bailey.

Newcomer to watch:  Ines Stricker (foreign exchange student).

Team Goal: Win District Title & Compete for Region Title.

I love our team’s attitude and willingness to work hard everyday.  I really think we are ready to take another step forward.
