In Dec. 6 IssueBy Derek AaronRussell County News EditorGot an animal lover on your Christmas list? If so, you won’t have to travel far this holiday season to find them the perfect pet as Agent’s Pets in Russell Springs have more than 200 furry critters, birds, reptiles and fish for your choosing.
Located at 126 Logan St. across from the Russell Springs Police Department, Steve and Phyllis Agent have brought the county a business that hopes to supply pets to loving families.
The Agents formerly ran Agent’s Resale, a used furniture store, on Main St. in Russell Springs for 13 years before moving away the last three years. Now the Agent’s are back and have gone into the pet store business.
The business has been open for four months but the Agent’s are hoping the Christmas season brings out Russell County’s animal lovers.
“We came to town and seen that a pet store was needed more than another used furniture store because there are so many here,” Phyllis said. “We love animals and we love pets so we just decided to go ahead and open a pet store since there are none around this area.”
Phyllis said she was hoping to sell a lot of birds and hamsters this holiday season as they seem to be two of her hottest sellers.
Agent said she had nine varieties of birds, including cockatoos and parakeets, as well as three different types of hamsters, ferrets, guinea pigs, sugar gliders, rabbits, iguanas, white mice, rats with or without hair, hermit crabs and many types of fish.
Agent said her shop wasn’t set up to sell cats or dogs at this time, but that it may be in the coming months.
She does sell supplies, food and cages for all animals, including some for felines and canines.
“I’m trying to keep my prices down because we are in a small area and I was raised here and have been here and I want to help people with their pets,” she said.
“A lot of people have came in and said I had a lot more than they thought I had,” she said.
Agent’s Pets is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. everyday except Sunday when the business is closed.
“We would love for people to come in and just look around,” she said.
“They don’t even have to buy, just come in and see and give me some ideas.”
She said if the store didn’t have the animal you wanted, she would do her best to have it by the end of the week, even snakes and saltwater fish.
“I might not have it in here but I can get it,” she said. “We have some really neat animals.”
