In Jan. 10 Issue Russell County NewsBy Ron Cowell, ColumnistWith the Holidays of 2008 behind just about behind us we start looking ahead to 2009. Car Clubs and groups are already planning the Cruise Ins and Car Show's for the 2009 season already.
While a lot of us are doing some work on our cars for next summer of shows, a lot are also planning the event's that are really not that far off. Shows will be starting as soon as April 4th.
This would be a good time to get our calendars marked for some upcoming shows. I did a little research and so far this is what is scheduled already.
On April 4th the show by Jason Earlywine will get underway at the Georgetown Vendors Mall and Flea Market. The first 75 will get dash plaques. There will be awards for the best GM, best Ford, best Mopar, best Foreign. There will also be Top 2 Special interest, Street Rod and best 4 door along with many more awards to be given away. April 26th will be the date for 14th Annual Richmond Auto Expo, presented by the Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity. All the profits from this show goes to The Wall Gang Camp for terminally ill children. The show starts at 8:00 AM and will take place at Alumni Coliseum Lot of Eastern Kentucky University on the eastern bypass road in Richmond Kentucky. There will be awards for, The best of show, Best late model,
Best Paint and many more. The first 100 will get a dash plaque and a gift bag plus there will be a lot of door prizes.
For the month of May we have the Cruise at Sonic on 27 in Stanford on May 1st. There will be several awards, dash plaques and a lot of fun. For more information on this event call 606-365-3000.
The Relay for Life Cruise will take place May 3rd at Whitaker Bank in Stanton, Kentucky. All proceeds from this show go to the Relay for life and gets underway at 1:00PM. For more information on this one call 606-663-4873.
A Cruise in in Nicholasville by the Lions Club will take place May 8th at Sonic by Wal Mart starting at 6:00PM. Then on the 9th the Saturday show will be held at Kroger in Nicholasville. At the Dairy Queen in Berea on May 16th on the strip will be a Cruise In. A lot of awards plus entertainment by the Bittersweet Cloggers, food and fun.. Contact information call 859-986=2535.
On May 16th The Lincoln County Habitat Car Show will take place in downtown Stanford. It gets underway at 9:00 AM till 4:00PM with the annual BBQ cook off, plenty of awards and lots of games. Call 606-365-7519 for more information on this show.
On May 22nd the Madison County Veterans are hosting a Welcome Home Celebration for troops from Afghanistan and Iraq and show from 5:00PM till 9:00PM at the Madison County Fairgrounds. For more information on this show call 859-986-5357.
May23rd "Crusin' at Renfro Vally will take place from noon till 4:00PM. There are Cars, Tractors, Motorcycles, Low Riders, Lawn Mowers, what ever you want to show with plenty of awards and dash plaques. Ten trophy's will be presented by the entertainers of Renfro Valley. 606-256-2664 is the number to call on this one.
Right here at home, don't forget the Ol' Boys Toys have their Car Shows the third Saturday of every month, April through September at the K Mart Parking Lot in Russell Springs. We will give you the time on that later on.
The "OUTSIDERS" car club will be having their Cruise Ins on the first Thursday of each month 6:00 PM to 9:00PM May through September. With the closing of Lake and Shake the new location of the Cruise Ins will be announced at a later date when all the final plans have been set up. Like last year there will be 50/50 and the Oldies being played by Ron's Rockin' Oldies.
That takes us through the first couple months of the Crusin' season for 2009. I'm sure more events will be added as we get closer to the season. In the meantime mark you calendars for some or all of these dates. Everyone who attends has a good time. Even if you don't have a car or a vehicle to enter come on out at have some fun this summer. I'll bet you can't get through an event without seeing a car like Grandpa had or maybe even your first vehicle.
