In Jan. 24 IssueRussell County NewsThe party’s over! Yep! All the hoopla and celebrations are behind us and it’s time to get down to the business at hand. I believe we presently have more questions than answers, but if President Obama delivers on the key points of his inaugural speech, I think we could be headed in the right direction.
Unfortunately the stock market was not as inspired by the new President’s speech as I was. The very day Chief Justice Roberts is swearing in our new president, the stock market closed over 300 points down. Do investors know something that we don’t know, or are the just being conscious?
I must say though that while I was writing this column, the market was pointing in a slightly positive direction.
One news channel said that our new President referenced God five times in his speech and mentioned the scriptures once. I’m sure that thrilled the secular progressive movement who has been clearly pushing for a new Godless administration.
It was also reported that China censors cut out parts of the President’s speech that made reference to communism and dissent. Apparently, China doesn’t want their citizens to know they are under a Communist regime.
Another problem our new President faces is Guantanamo Bay. The starch left has been pushing for some time now to close this military facility. There is one small problem, what are we going to do with the prisoners there that are known terrorist? If they decide to bring them to the United States, ya think they’ll be placed in California or Washington DC?
Former Defense Secretary, Donald Rumsfeld stated that Guantanamo Bay was the “Best least worst place” to put these prisoners. Why? Because we quite frankly don’t care what Cuba thinks?
I believe that when all of the options are considered, President Obama is going to realize that he has a very difficult choice to make. He can make a large percent of his left leaning supporters happy or do the obvious and leave things be. Either way, I don’t see this issue being resolved anytime soon.
It is my opinion however that so far, so good. I just pray that President Obama is able to move forward with all the promises he has made. Only time will tell. I do know that we won’t have President Bush to kick around anymore. Of course he’ll still receive the blame for all of our woes.
I also know that we live in the greatest country on earth and it didn’t become that way by our people setting around and waiting for the government to fix things. I think we all have some work to do and the time to begin is now!
May God Bless
