In Jan. 24 IssueRussell County News"April, and definitely in May we'll be able to open up," Superintendent Scott Pierce said of the new Auditorium / Natatorium.
The construction on the pool is progressing to schedule and the auditorium lacks seats and only a few other finishing touches, Pierce said.
There are painters and plumbers moving through the building, finishing out, testing and touching up.
The new facility is wired for a multi-media experience in the auditorium.
The pool includes a diving well.
The climate control system is geo-thermal based and in the pool area is specially designed to prevent the problems normally experienced with natatoriums, moisture and the mold and rust it brings.
"The air will be fresh constantly," Pierce said. "The system doesn't recycle any air."
There are classrooms, meeting rooms and other areas in the building that are all designed with more than one purpose in mind.
He said the building could actually be ready for occupancy as early as March, but they would be going through all of the systems in detail before releasing the contractors or beginning to use the building.
