News from Washington  gave us another eye opener this week.

Here we are, the economy is slipping deeper and deeper each day, homes are being lost, thousands and thousands of jobs are disappearing and the government has borrowed, and is borrowing, more money than we will ever see paid back.

Then we learn that members of congress are giving their offices a $90,000 increase in expenses.  They need the money so they can travel more and keep up better with their districts. The cost of travel has increased. Does it never stop?

Do our leaders ever learn that money has to come from somewhere. They now act like a trillion dollars is just another days work and a mere $90,000 increase is apparently no more than a ride on the train.

A few weeks ago, people were up in arms and calling for an end to all the big money gifts to the big company CEO’s. To us this bears much of the same stench.....everything is falling apart so just give us more money.

We, like so many of you, are patiently awaiting the final stimulus package to bring some relief to all our woes.

The trillions of dollars being proposed will be spent in various ways and how any of it will reach our unemployed in Russell is yet to be seen.

We are seeing some of the usual we have come to expect from our great political leaders.

One thing what would certainly help those without a job or those about to lose their home would be some 300 million dollars proposed to go to furnish  contraceptives. The only connection we could see here would be the reasoning if you’re unemployed, you should have safe sex while not working.

Then they are proposing to spend 200 million on sprucing up the mall at the capitol. That figures out at 1.5 million worth of sprucing per acre. That will certainly help all of us to have a pretty and spotless mall.

They are also proposing a Mob Museum in Las Vegas and it goes on and on.

We know, it makes us all feel so warm and secure to see we are being taken care of so precisely and cautiously.
