If there is a new Russell County Jail to be built it would seem to have found a home. After an extended closed-door session, the Russell Springs City Council approved a proposal.
Councilwoman Lisa Mann made a motion to sell property at the end of Brian Walters Rd. to the county for the sum of $1, "and other considerations."
A stipulation in the deal was that the county must build a jail in 2 years or forfeit the property back to the city.
The property was estimated at 3.5 to 4 acres.
County Judge-Executive Mickey Garner, who had been called into the closed door session, said after the regular session that a hearing is set at 8 a.m. this Friday before the special fiscal court meeting.
Mayor Hollis DeHart said the "other considerations" would include things like ditch work for the city on the road leading to the proposed jail site.
"I thought there was no reason for that property sitting back there doing nothing," said DeHart. "It was a win, win situation for the county and the city."
