In Feb. 5 IssueWe are a big supporter of the new natatorium/auditorium as we feel this new facility will have a great impact upon this community.
There have been some questionable opinions expressed and we certainly can understand. But this facility has so much to offer to this community.
It is much more than a large building to be used by our schools and our swimming teams. Not only will it serve our students, it is a facility that will have a tremendous impact on the cultural development and entertainment of this entire community.
While the many local, regional and state swimming meets will be beneficial to our young people, regional and state swim events will have a very positive economic impact to the community. These visitors, shop, eat and lodge wherever these competitions are held.
While this is important, the opportunity to bring professional theatrical groups and professional orchestras and other such groups and events should have a great impact upon all of us. Plans are already in place to make this structure the center of this community. The center in learning, health, culture and entertainment.
Already, professional entertainers, singers and orchestras are being contacted and community events are being planned.
Also, the large foyer can provide areas for displays such as art shows, crafts, and business. There is a large section of the building which will also provide exercise equipment and health wellness opportunity. Plus, large meeting rooms will also be available by the public for small conventions, meetings and etc.
We commend the superintendent and school board for their community involvement and their leadership in bringing all of this to our community.
About The New Jail?
What is your opinion concerning the construction of a new jail.
As we have previously stated, we feel Russell County is most capable of obtaining and operations a new jail facility.
This provides jobs for the community and could very easily be a source of revenue for the county instead of a complete drain.
What is you opinion concerning the location of a new jail?
Consideration is presently being given to locating the new jail in the mid-town area just behind the new Senior Citizen Center. While this would certainly make it easier for police in Russell Springs to transport to the new jail, it would cause an additional transporting of prisoners to court proceedings in district and county court and by the Jamestown Police.
What is you opinion. Should we have a new jail?
Where should it be located?
