A Russell Springs man was involved in a deadly crash on Thursday in Green County and criminal charges, including second degree manslaughter, have been filed against him, according to Billy Gregory of the Kentucky State Police.

John P. Greene, 46, of Russell Springs was driving a 1994 Ford Ranger eastbound on US Hwy 68, 2 1/2 miles east of Greensburg, when he crossed the center line, entered the westbound lane and struck a 2006 Toyota being driven by Sheila Martinez, 55, of Greensburg, according to the police report.

Martinez was wearing a seatbelt and was treated and released at the Jane Todd Crawford Hospital for minor injuries. However, a passenger in the Martinez vehicle, Russell A. Greenway, 51, of Greensburg was killed in the collision, according to the KSP.

Greenway was pronounced dead at the scene by the Green County Coroner, according to the KSP. He was also wearing a seatbelt.

Greene, who was not belted, was flown to the University of Louisville Medical Center for treatment of his injuries, police said.

Further investigation has revealed that alcohol may have been a contributing factor in the deadly wreck, according to state police.

Greene was arrested Friday at his home on Airport Rd. in Russell County and was charged with one count each of second degree manslaughter, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol and failure to give an oncoming vehicle half of the highway, according to the KSP.

Greene was lodged in the Taylor County Jail. Trooper Dewayne Holder worked the accident and is investigating.
