A Saturday night fire on Bernard Ridge destroyed a barn and much of its contents, according to Russell Springs Fire Chief H.M. Bottom.
Bottom said his department was called out around 7:30 p.m. Saturday to a barn owned by Albert Bicknell on Ky. 619, approximately four miles east of Russell Springs.
"The barn was fully engulfed in flames when we arrived," Bottom said. He said Bicknell had managed to remove a large farm tractor and a truck from the barn before it was too late.
"Farm machinery, tools and mowers and things like that were all destroyed in the fire," he said.
Bottom said an insurance adjuster had yet to examine the loss but expected to the monetary loss to be staggering.
"He had a lot of things stored in there," he said.
Bottom said the cause of the fire has yet to be determined but is under investigation by his department.
Volunteers with the Russell Springs Fire Department were on the scene for more than an hour and 15 minutes.
