In March 7 IssueRussell County NewsGo figure! That’s what a friend of mine use to say when he witnessed something happen that was just plain stupid! I don’t care what your choice of political parties is; our Congress is just plain stupid. I know those are strong words, but I’ve never seen anything like it.
It seems like every time our new President opens his mouth, the stock market goes down! Congress and the President need to understand that until Wall Street begin trusting them, this economy is not going to change, and it is only going to get worse.
A dear friend in North Carolina sent me this story today and I thing it sums up what I’ve been trying to say. It’s titled “$50”.
I recently asked my friend’s little girl what she wanted to be when she grows up. She said she wanted to be President some day.
Both of her parents, liberal Democrats, were standing there, so I asked her, “If you were President what would be the first thing you would do?” She replied, “I’d give food and houses to all the homeless people.” Her parents beamed. “Wow! What a worthy goal” I told her. “But you don’t have to wait until you’re President to do that. You can come over to my house and mow the lawn, pull weeds and sweep my yard and I’ll pay you $50.
Then I’ll take you over to the grocery store where the homeless guy hangs out and you can give him the $50 to use toward food and a new house.” She thought that over for a few seconds, then she looked me straight in the eye and asked, “Why doesn’t the homeless guy come over and do the work, and you can just pay him the $50?” I said, “Welcome to the Republican Party.” Her parents still aren’t speaking to me.
John F. Kennedy welcomed forty-nine Nobel Prize winners to the White House in 1962. He said, “I think this is the most extraordinary collection of talent and of human knowledge that has ever been gathered together at the White House – with the possible exception of when Thomas Jefferson dined alone.”
Here are some quotes by the 3rd President of the United States, Thomas Jefferson…
“When we get piled upon one another in large cities, as in Europe, we shall become as corrupt as Europe.”
“The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not.”
“It is incumbent on every generation to pay its own debts as it goes. A principle which if acted on would save one-half the wars of the world.”
“I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them.”
“My reading of history convinces me that most bad government results from too much government.”
“No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms.”
“The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government.”
“The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.”
And in 1802 Thomas Jefferson said, “Banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around the banks will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered.”
Doesn’t this sound a little familiar to what is happening in our country today?
May God bless…
