In March 7 IssueRussell County NewsBy Ron Cowell, ColumnistAs we get closer to the Car Show season upcoming shows are rolling in to tell you about. One show that you will want to mark on your Calendar is May 9th for the “PRIDE IN YOUR RIDE” Car Show that is being sponsored by the City of Russell Springs Masonic Lodge 941.
This is going to be a fun time for a good cause. It will be a combined Car, Truck, Motorcycle and Tractor Show. It will all take place on Main Street in Russell Springs.
Registration will get underway at 8 a.m. until noon. Entry fee for the show will be $5. If you want to register your car to be in the show it’s a $10 fee.
Trophies will be given out at 3 p.m. There will be awards for Mayor’s Trophy, Police Dept Trophy and Fire Department Trophy.
There will also be awards for the Best of Show Motorcycle and the Best of Show Tractor.
All proceeds from this show will be going to the Shriner’s Hospital and local charity.
A day full of fun and activities are on the schedule. Come early and plan on spending the day there. The Lodge will be serving food all day long, plus Russell Lodge 284 will be slow-cooking chicken halves with all the fixens.
There will be plenty of door prizes, a 50/50 drawing and The Ritzpah Loonies Clowns will be there for kids of all ages.
This will be a lot of fun for the whole family so mark it down and plan on being there.

Some other activities that will be going on through out the summer also are The Ol Boys Toys Car Shows.
They will be having their shows the same as last year. They will be held the 3rd Saturday of each month from April through September at 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the K-Mart Parking lot across from Subway.

The Sonic will also behaving the Block Party the first Friday of each month at 6:30 p.m. starting in April through September.
This always turns out to be an evening full of fun when car lovers come from all over just to gather and visit and talk about the good old days and their cars.
Also this year Sonic Drive In will be putting on a car show June 27th. Charlie Napier, the DJ of the Cars will be there. This is one you won’t want to miss either.

You can’t forget Summer Nights Cruise Block Party in the Wal Mart parking lot in Somerset on the 4th Friday of each month, May through October.
This in a block party that you want to come early to get a good spot. There is always games for the kids, plenty of food and vendors and live entertainment for all.
In Columbia the Green River Kruizers have their show on the square in Columbia the 2nd Saturday of the month, May through August from 4:00 PM to 7 p.m. Usually they have their big Labor Day show also so watch for more information on that.
The “OUTSIDERS” car club of Russell Springs will be changing the night and the place for their Cruise Ins this year.
This year they will be moving from the old Lake & Shake to America’s #1 Drive In, Sonic. The cruise ins will be the second Friday of each month May through September at 6 p.m.
That’s just some the local shows and Cruise Ins coming up this summer in the area. If you haven’t ever been to one of these shows you need to attend this summer.
All the clubs work hard to put on a good program for the public to come and enjoy.
As you walk through looking at the cars, listening to the stories, hearing the engines and enjoying a good cold drink you can close your eyes and swear you are back in time.
Each car and each oldie song you hear will bring back a memory for you. Hope to see you at some of these events.
