The Russell County Lady Lakers softball team won the season's opening game Monday against visiting Monroe County, 13-8, in the varsity game and 14-4 in the JV game.
Sophomore Abbie Tarter picked up the win on the mound for the ladies while Lacy Holt, Hailey McBeath and Sarah Shaw all had big days at the plate for Coach Trent Tarter's team.
The Lady Lakers had 13 hits on the day and were led by McBeath, who went 3-4 with a homerun and an RBI.
Holt went 2-3 on the afternoon and had a double and an RBI while Shaw went 2-3 with a triple and an RBI.
The Lady Lakers are a young team and have no seniors but the experience many of these girls got last season will help tremendously as the softball season goes forward.
On Tuesday the ladies traveled to Garrard County and lost 13-3.
First year coach Candi O’Dell’s RCMS softball team also played Monday, dropping both the 8th grade and 7th grade games to visiting Clinton County, 9-8 and 7-4, respectively.
