RCHS Track and Field team has good showing at meets this past week
In April 30 Issue
By Misty Matney
RCHS Track Coach

The track team traveled to West Jessamine on April 21 for the RJ Corman Railroad Relays.

The weather conditions for this meet were cold and in the 40’s with high wind gusts and periodic rain and sleet falling. This was a meet of relays and field events only.

Despite the conditions the teams did well and had a good time competing in this type of fun mid-season event.  Tough teams like Henry Clay, Woodford County, Bryan Station and Model were all present for this meet, along with some other large schools.

The highlights from the meet were Whitney Grider receiving third in the long jump and the throwers 4X100 relay consisting of Chelsea Barger, Logan Clark, Emily Wilson and Codey Bell.

It’s always a fun thing to have the throwers running in a relay and doing well at it. Individual’s often think throwers cannot run, but that is quite the contrary.

The girl’s and boy’s track teams went to Casey County on April 23rd to compete in the AA Derby.  The girl’s team was led by Whitney Grider and Ally Harris. Grider had a personal best in long jump jumping 15-05. Grider and Harris scored in each of their four events to give them the most points for the girl’s team.

The girl’s results are as follows. 4X800 relay consisting f Heather Owens, MaKenzie Back, Heidi Ciccarelli and Autumn Smith-4th; 100 Hurdles: Chandra Walters-6th, Selena Padilla-7th; 100 meter dash: Whitney Grider-6th, Kelsey Haydon-8th; 4X200 relay: Harris, Breanna Hudson, Hayden, Grider- 4th; 4X100 relay: Tara Salyer, Danielle Walters, Hudson, Owens- 5th; 400 meter dash: Harris- 4th, Emily York-6th; 300 meter hurdles: Katie Williams-7th, Chandra Walters-8th; 800 meter run: Harris- 4th, Owens- 8th; 200 meter dash: Grider-6th, Hayden-8th; 4X400 relay: Hayden, Owens, York, Harris-3rd; Shot: Emily Wilson: 8th, Chelsea barger-10th; Discus: Emily Wilson-6th, Barger-8th; Long Jump: Grider-1st, Williams-6th; High Jump: Padilla-3rd, Kisha Fletcher-6th. Overall the girls placed fourth.

The boy’s team was led by Aaron Pierce and Codey Bell in points. The results for the boy’s team are as follows. 4X800 relay consisting of Robert Montville Jr., Trevor Robertson, Nickota Wheat, Daniel Ortiz-2nd; 110 meter Hurdles: Jamison Meece-4th, Joe Meza-8th; 4X200 relay: Landon Meece, Jackson Evans, Brett Huddleston, Aaron Pierce- 2nd; 1600 meter run: Robertson-4th; 4X100 relay: Evans, Huddleston, J. The third track meet for the week was held at Danville’s Admiral Stadium for the E.G. Plummer Invitational.  Several members of the team were absent due to other school related activities.

Two members that had been absent due to the senior trip to New York were Bryon Ellis and Ashley Wilson. Bryon broke the Russell County school record in discus that was previously held by his brother Adam Ellis with a throw 137-03, breaking the 136-05 throw. Bryon placed first in the event.

Ashley Wilson also returned placing first in the shot put event and third in the discus. Trevor Robertson had a new personal best in the 1600 meter run with a time of 5:06.41, placing him 8th overall and Trevor being the youngest competitor in the event.

Ally Harris placed 4th in the 400 meter dash and 5th in the 800 meter run after being sick for the majority of the morning.

The boy’s 4X400 relay team placed 5thoverall with the members of Wheat, Tackett, Carnes and Pierce.
