Coach Trent Tarter’s Lady Laker softball team had a good week on the softball field, winning two of three games.
On Tuesday, the Lady Lakers blasted district rival Cumberland County 15-0.
The win puts Russell County at 2-3 in the district at this crucial point in the season.
While the ladies had their way with the Lady Panthers, Monday’s home game against Glasgow may have very well been the turning point in the softball season.
Down early to the Lady Scotties, the Lady Lakers mounted a comeback.
Lady Laker junior catcher Lacy Holt hit a grand slam homerun for the Lady Lakers in the third inning to cut the Glasgow lead to 7 to 5.
Then as the two teams battled into extra innings, a two out base hit in the bottom of the 8th inning by Lady Laker Sophomore shortstop Sarah Shaw drove in the winning Lady Laker run.
Last week the Lady Lakers dropped a district game, 10-7, to the Metcalfe County Lady Hornets.
The Lady Laker softball team’s record now stands at 9-12 on the season.
Their next game is scheduled for Thursday, April 30 at district rival Clinton County.
