In May 7 IssueBIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Five Alabama-Huntsville baseball players have been named to the 2009 All-GSC team as announced by the league last week, including Nick Huckaby, a junior from Jamestown.
The 2007 GSC East Freshman of the Year, Huckaby picks up his first All-GSC honor after moving over to second base from the left side of the diamond during his first two seasons at UAH.
Junior first baseman slugger Ryan McCrory led the way for the Chargers with a first-team all-conference selection. McCrory enters the weekend leading the league in slugging percentage (.934) a number that ranks second nationally. The junior also leads the squad in home runs (17), RBI (55), batting average (.380) and walks (36).
Joining McCrory in receiving all-conference honors were senior right fielder George Washington, junior second baseman Nick Huckaby from Jamestown as well as junior pitchers Chase Earl and Jacob Wray.
Washington earns all-league honors after hitting .400 in GSC play this spring and ranks second on the club in walks (27) and runs scored (50).
