In May 7 IssueThe middle school track team competed in the Casey County Middle School Invitational on April 27th.
The girl’s team finished 3rd overall with several individual wins. The girls’ 4X800 relay consisting of MaKenzie Back, Autumn Smith, Heather Owens and Ally Harris took the top spot finishing ahead of powerhouse teams Rockcastle and Casey County.
Kelsey Haydon placed 3rd in the 100meter dash and seventh in the 200 meter dash, as well as placing second in the high jump for her first attempt to high jump in competition. Breanna Hudson placed 6th in the 200 meter dash along beside Haydon. The 4X200 relay received 2nd place with the members of Haydon, Back, Harris, and Breanna Hudson. MaKenzie placed 7th in the 1600 meter run with that.
Ally Harris placed 1st in the 400 meter dash with Emily York coming in 4th, and Harris was the anchor leg of the winning 4X400 relay. Other members of the 4X400 relay are Haydon, Heather Owens and Emily York. The 4X100 relay team consisted of York, Smith, Hudson and Walters placed 3rd.
Emily Wilson placed 4th in the shot put and 2nd in the discus throw.
Owens and Back competed in the long jump with Owens coming in 4th and Back 8th. For the boy’s there are not enough participants to make an official team.
Trevor Robertson dominated the 1600 meter run, the 800 meter run and placed 5th in long jump and 4th in the 100 meter hurdles. It was the first time Trevor had ever competed in the hurdles and long jump events, but did very well considering he had never practiced for those events.
Trevor also received the honor of most outstanding male athlete award for the meet with the most points scored and outstanding performances. Wes Fletcher placed 10th in the 100 meter dash, 6th in the 400 meter dash, and 7th in the 200 meter dash.
Robert Bradshaw placed 9th in the 100meter dash, 8th in the 200 meter dash and 11th in the long jump.
Zak Shultz placed 3rd in discus and 4th in shot put.
In the national rankings there are several middle school athletes that are national ranked. Ally Harris is ranked nationally in the 400 meter dash and 800 meter run.
Trevor Robertson is ranked in the 1600 meter run and long jump. Kelsey Haydon is ranked in the 100 meter dash.
The middle schools 4X400 relay is also ranked 66th in the nation with the members being Ally Harris, Kelsey Haydon, Emily York and Heather Owens.
The 4X200 girl’s team is also nationally ranked placing 75th out of the entire middle school nation.
Being recognized as an elite group in the nation in an honor, and it shows the amount of time and work that these athletes have invested in the sport and events.
