In May 9 IssueRussell County NewsBy Ron Cowell, ColumnistThe Masonic Lodge 941 of Russell Springs is holding a car show today in downtown Russell Springs.
If you are looking for something to do today you will want to head to this show. It will feature Cars, Trucks, Motorcycles and Tractors, so there will be something for everyone. All the proceeds from this show will be going to a local charity and the Shriner’s Hospital.
The show will get started at 8 a.m. and trophies will be given away around 3 p.m.
No need to worry about eating before you go, food will be served all day along with a fish fry that will be put on by Russell Lodge #248.
Awards will be The Mayors Trophy, The Police Department Trophy, Fire Department Trophy,, The Best of Show for Motorcycle and Tractor.
Music will be provided by “Ron’s Rockin Oldies” all day long featuring Music of the 50’s, 60’s. 70’s and 80’
Bring the kids down also. They are sure to have fun watching the Ritzpah Loonies Clowns putting on a show and pleasing everyone from 1 year old to 99.
This show will be running till three PM so try to make it to downtown Russell Springs and enjoy the day and have some fun for a good cause.
Other shows and Cruise Ins for the month of May will be held Saturday night, the 9th of May on the Columbia Square. This event is put on by the Green River Kruizers of Adair County and will get started at 6:00PM.
The Ol Boys Toys will have their monthly car show on the third Saturday of May, the 16th in the K Mart parking lot across from Subway. This show gets underway at 12 Noon and trophy’s are handed out around Three PM. Oldies Music is provided by Denver Wilson. The show in April was a big success for the Club and they are looking forward to the show becoming even bigger as the season goes on. The President of the Club, Billy Lawson and the gang invite you out to their Car Show.
Also on the 16th and 17th of May there is a really good car show in Henderson Kentucky put on by the Ohio Valley Cruisers from Henderson.
This all gets started Saturday night, the 16th with a Sock Hop in Downtown Henderson. It gets underway at 5 p.m. and runs till when ever the last car leaves on Saturday night.. Then at 8:00 AM Sunday morning the Car Show itself is held.
This is a fun day also with plenty of trophies handed out and many wonderful prizes to win. There will be games for the kids, oldies music and lots of door prizes.
It’s about a 3 hour drive to Henderson. There are seven couples from The OUTSIDERS Car Club going to this event.
If you think you would like to go you can cruise to Henderson with the OUTSIDERS on the morning of Saturday the 16th of May. The Club will be meeting and leaving at 8:00 AM at the old Lake & Shake Grill on 80.
Everyone is welcome to join in.
On Friday, May 21st It’s Block Party night in Somerset at Wal-Mart. Everyone arrives around 6 p.m., Central Standard time. There is a live band playing some good music, rides for the kids, food vendors and a whole lot of beautiful cars. If you have never attended the Wal-Mart Block Party you will be in for an evening full of fun.
Then on Saturday is the Summer Nights Cruise in Somerset. During the day all the cars meet on the square in Somerset and spend the day visiting and seeing the Classic Cars.
Then around 7 p.m. in the evening the old Cars start Cruising 27. People bring lawn chairs and line up along Rt. 27 and watch these cars as they cruise by. You can usually expect well over a thousand cars at this big event.
