In May 9 IssueRussell County News“Tea Anyone?”
It’s starting to become clear that the party’s not over! “Tea Party” that is!
Our
President and the media are trying to play down the overwhelming
response to these recent events. The main stream media and so called
celebrities have been referring to the people attending these events as
racists, homophobes and right wing activists, but if you take a closer
look, you will find people just like you and I that are trying to be
heard.
Glenn Beck has made a controversial splash in the news
lately and he also has been labeled as a crazy nut case and extremist.
Here’s what Beck recently posted on his website, www.glennbeck.com
about the “Tea Parties”
“What the media does not understand is I
didn’t start this, FOX News didn’t start this, the people started it
and it began to grow because that is what the people wanted. They found
their own voice and thousands of people held peaceful protests across
the country.
Turns out they were misunderstood. The media just
didn’t get it. They blamed FOX News or the Republicans or me for the
tea parties.
Either because of their agenda or because they are just really blind to what happens off the island most of them work on.
I
look at the people who attended the tea parties and I’m guessing that
most of them would be uncomfortable with being labeled “activists.”
This is not ACORN.
They are reluctant activists. And I
understand that: What kind of normal person wants to go stand out in
public shouting things? Honestly, if I wasn’t covering the tea parties
I don’t know if I would have gone to the Alamo on April 15.
I would talk to my friends and family and yell at the TV some more, but I don’t take to the streets. I’m just not that person.
The
only thing that could turn me into an “activist” is seeing my
children’s future being ruined. And that’s exactly what’s happening. I
bet that’s why a lot of the people are involved now.
The
majority of those at the tea parties were just regular Americans who
love their country and don’t need to wear a red, white and blue cape
and chant “USA! USA!” to prove it.
That’s not the view the
media likes to show because it doesn’t fit into their little box. But
presenting those people as extremists does.”
Many people do not
understand that these are normal folks that are finally stepping up and
saying “enough!” One gentleman on Beck’s television show said that he
use to be a democrat, but who wants to claim to be a democrat with
leaders in the party like Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid? Many
republicans feel the same way.
While I am not ready to abandon
the Republican Party, leaders like John McCain do not represent my
principals and political views. If the main stream media would take the
time to listen and report the truth, they would find that the majority
of the people attending these tea parties are sick of the big
government getting bigger and too much spending. Hard working people
are sick of being forced to support the deadbeats that are too lazy to
work.
Thomas Jefferson said it best! “When the people fear
their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the
people, there is liberty.”
May God bless…
